I developed man boobs as a teenager, and they were very annoying. I was embarrassed to take my shirt off to go swimming, I had to avoid tight and well fitting shirts, and I constantly had the nagging suspicion that people were making fun of and talking about me behind my back.

The doctor said that they were a natural part of puberty and that they would go away on their own. Towards the end of college, they were as big as ever and showing no sign of slowing down. So, I decided to do something about them.

I tried pretty much everything under the sun, and it was tough to find something that actually WORKED. I bought some “chinese miracle herbs” at one point, but they just made me feel a little speedy and weird. Lose Man Boobs Through Supplementation

First off, I want to say that I have never been a huge fan of using massive amounts of supplements where you don’t really know what they are doing to your body. However, I just read an interesting and convincing article at the hugely popular weight lifting site, Testosterone Nation, on ways to get rid of man boobs.

The article talks about a base for man boobs being a hormonal imbalance. Or, more specific, a problem producing too much estrogen due to an issue converting between testosterone and estrogen.

For this, they recommend three capsules a day of biotest Rev-Z, 8 to 10 capsules a day of Biotest Flameout, and at least one to two servings a day of cruciferous vegetables as the best supplementation to eliminate man boobs.

These work by inhibiting the conversion of testosterone into estrogen, and overall inhibiting the production of estrogen.

I have never been a big fan of messing with your body’s natural chemistry in this way, but I have talked to quite a few people who have used this method, along with the proper man boobs exercise regimen and nutrition, to achieve stunning results.

For anyone considering using this type of thing, I highly recommend doing your due diligence and further researching what other effects these chemicals might have before putting them in your body.

For example, resveratrol, the active ingredient in Biotest Rev-Z, has poorly studied long term effects. Read more than you ever wanted to know about it on its wikipedia page. Though, I don’t see any mention of it helping to get rid of man boobs.

I would tend to play it safe with a solid mix of cardio and weight lifting for man boobs exercise.

The Best Man Boobs Exercise Routine For Cardio

In an earlier post, I went over my top 6 exercises to get rid of man boobs. These were all weight lifting type exercises. In this post I will give you my recommendation for the best man boobs exercise routine for cardio.

See, while lifting weights and building up muscle under the fatty tissue in your chest is great, if you do nothing to reduce the fat in your chest, your man boobs will actually grow. This is why the best man boobs exercises combine both a weight lifting and a cardiovascular element.

The specific type of cardio workout you do actually doesn’t matter in terms of trying to lose man boobs. All we care about here is that we are burning calories. I would suggest either running, rowing, swimming or biking, as I come from a more functional fitness background, but if you are married to the elliptical or stairmaster, those work fine as well.

What really matters in terms of a man boobs exercise routine involving cardio is your heart rate. You generally want to start out doing around 20-60 minutes of cardiovascular exercise in a range that is between 65 to 75% of your maximum heart rate (calculated as your 220-age).

Another technique which really eliminates your man boobs is taking a more interval training type approach. This is something to do when you are a little further along in your man boobs training, but is very powerful. For a perdiod of 20-60 minutes alternate between 5 minutes at 65-75% of your maximum heart rate and one minute at 80-85% of your maximum heart rate. If you are unable to bring your heart rate back down during the 5 minute period, then you are not ready to train this way and should go back to normal cardio workouts.

Really, a good way to get rid of man breasts through cardio is by focusing on your maximum heart rate and trying to stay within certain “fat burning zones.”

Surgery VS. Man Boobs Exercise?

A common question for those with man boobs is, “what is the best way to get rid of man boobs?”

Generally, people consider two main options: 1) Surgery and 2) some type of man boobs exercise routine along with proper nutrition.

What I tell people is that surgery does work to get rid of man breasts. It is pretty basic plastics surgery, akin to liposuction. They go into your chest and suck out all of the fatty deposits. The doctor recommends exercises to get rid of man boobs because in most cases these will eliminate man boobs.

Indeed, surgery should be a secondary option to a man boobs exercise program because it is so invasive and costly. Count on having to pay upwards of $5000 for a good surgeon. Additionally, this type of surgery, along with every other surgery, is potentially life threatening. There is always the potential for a bacterial infection, or your body to never wake up.

This is why you should always see if you can achieve results by working out first. A good man boobs exercise routine will work for the majority of guys. Where surgery carries a risk of infection, working out to reduce your man boobs will, even if it does not work, at least make you lose weight, look healthier, and be healthier.

Its your choice, but I recommend fully exhausting the natural options before choosing an expensive surgery.

Top 6 Exercises To Get Rid Of Man Boobs

Here is my personal list of the top 6 exercises to get rid of man boobs

1) Bosu Ball Pushup. This is a great man boobs exercise. It is performed exactly like a regular pushup, except with your hands on either side of a bosu ball, with the ball part on the floor. It helps you get rid of man boobs by not only working your chest muscles, but engaging your core and forcing the muscles in that area to work together.

2) Military Press. Also known as the shoulder press. Get a barbell and load it with weights. Press it from your shoulders to full extension past your head. In order to lose man boobs, we also want to be building up the muscle surrounding your chest. Your body won’t let your chest muscles grow disproportionately to those around it.

3) Bench Press. The most popular of all chest exercises. Lie on a bench, with a rack above it and de-rack the bar. Lower until it lightly touches your chest and then raise it back to full extension. This will hit your man boobs where it will hurt them most.

4) Dip. Position yourself between two parallel bars, or on a dip platform. Put one arm on each bar, and raise your body until your arms have straightened out. Lower your body until your arms make a 90 degree angle at the elbow, then raise your body back to the starting position. This helps to get rid of man breasts by targeting the area of your pecs which goes under your arm.

5) Bosu Ball Dumbell Press. Stand on the ball part of a bosu ball with a dumbell in each hand and perform a press with them. This helped me get rid of my man boobs by blasting my core and connecting tissue.

6) Deadlift. No list would be complete without the deadlift. Its one of the best supporting exercises to get rid of man boobs. Start with your back in a neutral position and the barbell on the ground. While keeping your shins vertical, bend at the knees, lowering your hips as much as possible. Grab the bar, with your shoulders slightly in front of the bar. Pull the bar off the ground, while maintaining the angle of your back with the ground. When the bar passes your knees, raise your chest and bring your hips to the bar to finish in the standing position.

How To Program The Right Mix Of Man Boobs Exercise

A lot of people you talk to about exercises to get rid of man boobs will tell you one of two things: 1) do LOTS of cardio to burn off the surrounding fat that causes your man boobs, or 2) lift weights to sculpt your pecs and thus eliminate man boobs.

However, the best man boobs exercise regimen contains a healthy mix of each, and here’s why:

If you just do cardio, sure, you will burn off excess fat in your pecs (as well as in the rest of your body).  However, once that is gone, you will still be left with excess, flabby skin around your chest.  See, while it is possible to reduce man boobs by losing the fat that comprises them, there is no way to shrink the skin around them.

This is why, in addition to getting a cardiovascular workout to lose man boobs, you should also build up the muscles in your pecs.

Having a good mix of cardio and weight lifting in your man boobs exercise routine works to your benefit in two ways: 1) By simultaneously losing the fat in your chest while replacing it with muscle, you avoid the “flabby skin” issue. 2) Having muscles in your body helps to further reduce your body fat.

That’s right, when you reduce your man boobs, and replace them with muscle, that muscle actually helps you further reduce fat.  See, just having muscle in your body takes a lot of calories to maintain.  So, the more muscle you build up, the more fat you burn just by sitting around!

So, next time you are in the gym, consider what a healthy mix of cardio and weight lifting should be for your man boobs exercise routine.

Hint: you should be doing cardio at around 65-75% of your maximum heart rate (220-age), and your weight lifting should leave you sore the next day, but not too sore to complete your exercises with a proper range of motion…more on that later.
